Twas Off The Proverbial Chain Yes It Twas

Holy crap it went down. For real. For the past couple months I've been wondering exactly how this was all going to play out. Bun B screening a film at the Museum of Fine Arts, Style Wars in fact, in a city that many people wouldn't think would be up on such "real hip hop" and art and such. People sleep on Houston hard to this day. O.K. yes we got a lil attention for having a bunch of dudes with shiny cars and shiny mouths, but people don't even know how deep Houston runs in all directions. They don't know about that 3rd Ward, they don't know about that museum district, they don't know about that nightlife, they really don't know shit.

But the fine folks at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston recognized. That's Marion Luntz in the photo above introducing Bun B before he took the podium and talked a little bit about who he is, why he does what he does and what hip hop means to him.

He said that he chose Style Wars because it showed hip hop in its infancy. It showed people who were doing what they were doing strictly for the love and they were serious about it. He really put a lot of things in perspective for a lot of people in the crowd.

And what a crowd it was. I saw everyone from college professors, to graf artists, to young thugstas, to radio personalities, to curious fans of all ages and races and man, it was amazing to see such a diverse group of thinkers come together. For real.

Bun B in his seat just before the start of the film.

The film!

The film!

And yes sirree, Bun B did fly Kay Sly in out of his own pocket, to talk to the folks about his role in hip hop, and the film. Yep, that was him rapping on the train platform, Kay Slay aka DEZ!

Dudes dropped knowledge for real. I don't think Kay Slay could really believe where he was.

Then afterwards Bun and Slay greeted the crowd, signed autographs and all that.

By the way the event was the only event in the MFAH series Movies Houstonians Love to sell out, it was oversold in fact. Bun B > Barbara Bush.

DON'T MISS THIS RIGHT HERE - BUN B AND THE GOOD FOLKS OF THE MFAH ON FOX NEWS AT 9PM!

I actually took a photo of Isaiah Carey and Bun B togethe rbut my camera screwed up and I had to reformat. Anyway, isaiah Carey is one of my favorite journalists as he actually reports on positive happenings in our hip hop community on TV. For real. He's a good man.

Super DJ BRandi Garcia generally doesn't get to come to my events cuz she's on the air on 97.9 the Box every night from 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. So it was really dope to see her out tonight!

Then of course we all headed out to the after party where yes, once again, it went down. How I like it to go down.

Bun B and his wife, Queen

DJ Chill held it down all night! Not sure why Kay Slay didn't make it to the afterparty, but whatever he held it down at the museum.
