Dry Flaky Skin on Face

A majority of the human population has dry skin. Such a skin type lacks sebum as well as moisture. It is finely textured, fragile and patchy in appearance. Dry, itchy skin is a problem throughout the year but it becomes more prevalent during the winter season. There can be several other factors that can contribute to make the condition even worse. These are, washing the skin with soap and water, excessive exposure to sun, air conditioners and heaters. To remove dryness and for maintaining the softness and smoothness of skin, you need to take proper care of it.

How to Get Rid of Dry Flaky Skin on Face
Below are a few ways to help you get rid of dry flaky skin on face.

Use Lukewarm Water
Hot water and chemical based toilet products remove the natural oils and moisture from the skin. This is one of the most common causes of dry flaky skin on face. Therefore, they are nothing less than a torture to dry skin. Try to avoid using hot water as much as possible. Use normal or lukewarm water for washing face, hands, feet and taking showers. If you cannot abide by this rule, you should restrict your bath to only once a day, otherwise you will aggravate the dryness of your skin.

Apply Moisturizer
One general rule of thumb to keep your skin soft and supple is to moisturize it right after taking shower when the skin is still wet. Moisturizing penetrates to deeper layers of skin while its wet. Use an intensive moisturizing lotion that meets your purpose. You may use a sunscreen lotion containing moisturizer if you have to go out in sun. This will provide your skin protection from sun along with the much needed moisturizing effect.

Moisturize your skin well before going to bed as well. You may use coconut oil or olive oil. For best possible results, warm the desired oil and then gently massage your skin in a circular motion with it. This is the best home treatment for very dry flaky skin.

Scrub Regularly
A clean and clear skin is better able to absorb moisturizer to its deeper layers. Thus, it is very necessary for you to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis but not more than twice a week. You may use skin care products made for this purpose. If you wish to use a natural scrub, then go for gram flour. Take a tablespoon of it and add 1-2 drops of lemon juice and 3-4 drops of milk to it.
Mix well to make a paste. Spread it all over your face or other parts of the skin on body. Leave it on for about 10 minutes to allow it to dry. Scrub it off with plenty of water. You will feel your skin to be clean, soft and smooth. Do it once in three days. Scrubbing should be immediately followed by intense moisturizing.
Moisturize with Face Packs
There are a wide variety of moisturizing face packs available in the market. Select one according to your skin type and its suitability. A natural method of providing your skin with acute moisturizing is to use fruit pulp. Papaya is considered to be the best for getting relief from extremely dry flaky skin on face. Take a tablespoon of papaya and mix it with 2-3 drops of rose water and a teaspoon of honey. Apply it on face and allow it to stay for 10-15 minutes. Wash it off with water. You may even replace papaya with banana as it will give the same effect. You can use such fruit based face packs once in two days.
